Prodrive entry hangs in the balance

Date October 10, 2007

As reported in Autosport, the Prodrive entry for the 2008 F1 season is now in question. There are two problems with the entry:

  • The Concorde agreement is meant to expire at the end of this season. The Concorde agreement does not allow for customer cars. There is meant to be a new agreement for 2008 and future seasons that will allow customer cars, but this new agreement has not been signed. If there is no new agreement, then the current Concorde agreement will be renewed for one more year.
  • The Prodrive entry requires them to start in 2008. It does (currently) not allow them to postpone their entry until 2009.

Max Mosley has called for the ICA (International Court of Appeals) to resolve this issue on October 24th.

It is not only David Richards (Prodrive owner) who has a large problem on his hands. This resolution from the ICA could also impact Super Aguri and Toro Rosso. If they don’t allow for customer cars, then F1 could lose three teams (2 existing and 1 new).
