FIA imposes no penalty on Renault

Date December 6, 2007

As reported at Pitpass.com, the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council has ended today in Monaco, and the FIA has issued a release stating that Renault F1 was found to be in breach of article 151c of the International Sporting Code, but will not be imposing any penalty on the team. There will be more detailed information released tomorrow.

This decision is similar to what happened to McLaren in July, when the team was found guilty during their FIA World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris but escaped any punishment because of a lack of proof the team had benefited from using Ferrari data.  It was only later when emails were discovered that showed more members of the team knew about the Ferrari connection that McLaren received the $100m penalty.
