Mosley wrote to the presidents of national automobile clubs last week telling them that the FIA risked losing control of F1 if he was forced out of office at the June 3 General Assembly meeting.

He claimed that he was locked in hard negotiations with F1′s commercial rights holders, Bernie Ecclestone and financial backers CVC Capital Partners, to prevent the FIA losing control of F1′s regulations and a veto to any potential future sale.

A meeting with backers Honda in Japan on Wednesday could decide the future of the struggling tail-enders after they limped through the first European grand prix of the season in Spain.

“They don’t look in very good shape at the moment, unfortunately,” Ecclestone told Reuters at the Circuit de Catalunya.

“I want them to stay, I’ve been helping them the last week,” he added.

As reported at Autosport.com, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone insists he will have ‘no sentiment’ over dropping the British Grand Prix from the calendar, as he warns that time is running out for Silverstone to secure a new deal.

Although the Northamptonshire-track expressed hope about its future on Tuesday when it revealed it had received local authority approval for a much talked-about revamp, Ecclestone has said that there are more hurdles to overcome yet before its future is sorted.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Ecclestone said that the commercial aspects of a new deal were far from settled – and that if he was not happy with what was on offer then the 2009 British GP would be the last.

When is he going to stop this garbage. He talks about the fact that the European Grand Prix’s are no longer important to F1, yet he is making the Asian races run at night so that they are in prime time for Europe. It is one or the other.

As reported on Grandprix.com, Australia’s Channel Nine is reporting that there are discussions going on to move the Australian Grand Prix from Albert Park in Melbourne to the Flemington Racecourse in the north-west of the city. This will reduce the costs of the Australian Grand Prix as it will become a permanent facility as opposed to the current temporary one in Albert Park. The current contract with Bernie is through 2010, so the change wouldn’t happen until after the current contract ends. The Flemington racecourse has been declared a National Heritage Site, which may create problems if roads and other facilities needed to be constructed.
