Force India unveil VJM01 in Mumbai

As reported at Autoweek.com, the Force India Formula One team on Thursday unveiled their new car and colour scheme they will use during the 2008 season.

The car, with a white and gold livery, will have Kingfisher as its more prominent sponsor following the buyout from Vijay Mallya, owner of the airline and beer brand carrying the Kingfisher name.

Indian billion-are Mallya bought the team from Spyker last year.

Mallya said during the launch event that he was proud to have become a team owner – especially now that Force India would be competing with an Indian racing licence.

Mallya confirms Fisichella at Force India

Autosport.com is reporting that Force India co-owner Vijay Mallya has confirmed that Giancarlo Fisichella will be his team’s number one driver this year.Ahead of an official announcement in India later today, Mallya told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport that Fisichella will be joining Adrian Sutil, with Vitantonio Liuzzi as test driver.

Schumacher quickest in testing return

As reported in Autosport.com, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher made an impressive return to Formula One action by topping the times on the first day of testing at the Barcelona circuit.The German driver, who had not driven a Grand Prix car in anger since he retired from the sport a year ago, posted a best time of 1:21:922 in Ferrari’s F2007 to edge the Italian squad’s test driver Luca Badoer by over a two tenths of a second after 64 laps.

Alonso and McLaren part ways (what a surprise)

As reported in Autosport and PitPass, Alonso and McLaren have agreed to part ways. Alonso’s manager is saying that no money has changed hands, but this is hard to believe. Why would McLaren let Alonso go for nothing, only to go to a competitor. There are rumours that Alonso can only go to a privateer team for the duration of his McLaren contract (Williams, Red Bull, Spyker, or Toro Rosso). The real surprise is going to be where he ends up. My money is on a swap for Rosberg with Alonso going to Williams.
