Toro Rosso to race old car in Turkey

As reported at a number of outlets, Scuderia Toro Rosso are to stick with their old car for at least one more race, with a lack of spare parts forcing them to abandon plans to introduce their new STR3 at this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix.

The Faenza-based outfit had been scheduled to run their definitive 2008 contender at Istanbul for the first time, having used a modified version of last year’s STR2 in the first few races of the season.

Toro Rosso team put up for sale

Autosport.com is reporting that Scuderia Toro Rosso have been put up for sale, with joint owner Dietrich Mateschitz wanting a new buyer to be in place by the end of next season.

The Italian outfit have been surrounded by speculation for months that Mateschitz and fellow shareholder Gerhard Berger were looking at selling the team – although each time this was denied by those involved.

However, with the new Concorde Agreement meaning that customer cars will be outlawed from the start of 2010, Mateschitz has said there is no way he can continue operating his junior team.

Toro Rosso to get new cars in Turkey

Grandprix.com is reporting that Scuderia Toro Rosso will have its new cars this year in Turkey. The team will use an updated version of the STR2 for the first few races of the year and hopes that the team’s knowledge of the car will bring good results before the team switches to newer machinery.

Gascoyne to quit if Ralf signs at Force India

ManipeF1.com is reporting that Gascoyne has threatened to quit if Force India signs Ralf Schumacher (who is a close friend of the new owner). Apparently, Mike Gascoyne believes it was Ralf who instigated his having to leave Toyota.

Prodrive entry hangs in the balance

As reported in Autosport, the Prodrive entry for the 2008 F1 season is now in question. There are two problems with the entry:

The Concorde agreement is meant to expire at the end of this season. The Concorde agreement does not allow for customer cars. There is meant to be a new agreement for 2008 and future seasons that will allow customer cars, but this new agreement has not been signed. If there is no new agreement, then the current Concorde agreement will be renewed for one more year.
The Prodrive entry requires them to start in 2008. It does (currently) not allow them to postpone their entry until 2009.

Max Mosley has called for the ICA (International Court of Appeals) to resolve this issue on October 24th.

It is not only David Richards (Prodrive owner) who has a large problem on his hands. This resolution from the ICA could also impact Super Aguri and Toro Rosso. If they don’t allow for customer cars, then F1 could lose three teams (2 existing and 1 new).
